Business Ethics Is Not An Oxymoron - 1791 Words

Business ethics are the moral behavior and principles that businesses live by in daily transactions. This brings about the question that has been asked many times, â€Å"Is Business Ethics an Oxymoron?† One side of the augment will say that people do business to earn profit and ethics is the opposite of earning profit. On the other hand, some will argue that without ethics in the business world, the market system will become chaotic and fail. I believe that business ethics is not an oxymoron. I will give examples from different theorist and how they apply ethics. These theorists include Freeman, Friedman, Beauvoir, Ethical Fading, Plato, Sen, and Pojman. Freeman, Pojman, and Sen have theories that show how people are inherently good and will do good for others, not just for the consequences of being ethical. Friedman, Beauvoir, and Plato believe that people are in business for themselves and make decisions for self-interest. One reason that business ethics is not an oxymoron is because people seek to help oneself and others in the process of transactions. Freeman’s Theory focuses on relationships and creating value for stakeholders. Business works because of peoples’ desire to create things with others and for others to end up getting a paycheck.
